The HPC4SME Assessment Tool is a free, web-based platform that helps Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) determine whether and how they can benefit from High-Performance Computing (HPC). Developed by the Slovenian company Arctur in collaboration with multiple European National Competence Centers for HPC, the tool provides SMEs with a clear, step-by-step process for assessing their HPC needs.
Speaking at the HPC Serbia conference in Belgrade, Tomi Ilijaš from Arctur highlighted the crucial role of the HPC4SME Assessment Tool in helping SMEs leverage HPC opportunities. According to him, the tool is not just useful – it is essential. Without a structured assessment approach to filtering and prioritizing SMEs with the strongest potential to benefit from HPC technologies, organizations working with SMEs would struggle to scale their outreach.
The tool is available in Serbian, making it easier for local companies to engage with it, and it is offered at no cost.
The assessment typically takes about 30 minutes to complete and consists of 30–35 specialized questions. The tool evaluates SMEs across three main areas: organizational readiness, cloud integration potential, and HPC performance and technical needs. Upon completion, HPC4SME Assessment Tool generates a personalized report.
