The Webinar Introduction to HPC is scheduled for 12 May 2026 as part of the 5th edition of this year's Italy-Germany Webinar Series, titled High Performance Computing: a Gateway to Next-Generation Research.
This webinar will provide an engaging overview of the evolution and impact of High-Performance Computing (HPC). Participants will first explore the history of supercomputing, highlighting the technological milestones that shaped modern HPC. The session will then examine the central role of supercomputing in contemporary science, demonstrating how large-scale simulations and numerical modeling have become essential tools for scientific discovery across disciplines. Through this journey, attendees will gain insight into how HPC enables researchers to create precise digital representations of complex phenomena and accelerate innovation in modern research.
The 5th edition of the Italy-Germany Webinar Series begins with this webinar and continues until 1 July. Organized by the International Relations Office of the National Research Council of Italy (CNR), the series is supported by HLRS and the science attaché office of the Italian Embassy in Berlin.
The series is designed to be of interest to researchers from all fields, as well as the "interested layperson". Speakers have been asked to strike a balance: avoiding the dense jargon of technical conferences without falling into the vague oversimplifications often seen in mainstream media.
The webinars are free of charge, although registration is required.
