CERN Researchers Visit HPC Serbia to Explore Collaboration in HPC, AI and Quantum Computing
Physicists from CERN, Predrag Milenović and Sofia Vallecorsa, Coordinator of the CERN Quantum Technology Initiative and Head of the Computing and Data Science Section at CERN, visited HPC Serbia at the Institute of Physics Belgrade (IPB) to discuss opportunities for collaboration in high-performance computing (HPC), artificial intelligence and quantum computing.
During their visit, they met with physicists Marija Mitrović Dankulov, Dušan Vudragović and Nenad Vukmirović. The discussions focused on potential areas of cooperation between HPC Serbia and CERN, as well as on the role of advanced computing technologies in supporting research in particle physics and other data-intensive scientific fields.
Vallecorsa and Milenović were in Belgrade to participate in a training session organised within the COST Action Machine Learning and Quantum Computing for Future Colliders. The Action brings together European expertise in machine learning, quantum computing, particle physics, collider technologies and data infrastructures, with the aim of accelerating innovation towards the next generation of particle colliders.
As the National Competence Centre for HPC in Serbia, HPC Serbia works to expand the national HPC user community and promote the adoption of advanced computing technologies and services, including artificial intelligence, high-performance data analytics and quantum computing. Quantum computing is one of the key areas of future development for HPC Serbia, making cooperation with CERN particularly relevant.
The visit provided an opportunity to strengthen links between the Serbian and CERN research communities and explore new avenues for collaboration in emerging computing technologies.
